COMMUNITY AND SERVICE

Service as action, through community service
Action and service have always been shared values of the IB community. Students take action when they apply what they are learning in the classroom and beyond. IB learners strive to be caring members of the community who demonstrate a commitment to service—making a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.

Saint Lambert International offers diverse opportunities to students for service, including but not limited to:
  • Leaf Raking
  • Up With Adam Fundraising Events
  • Community Outreach Projects
  • SLI Ambassadors
  • Christmas Baskets
  • Peer Tutoring
  • Green on Green Eco Club
  • Elementary School Liaison Projects

Students are also encouraged to seek opportunities outside of the school environment and within their larger communities. Opportunities are regularly made known through the announcements and on the Community Service board. Students may also volunteer with community organizations, special events, places of worship or even create their own opportunities for service. Here are a few locations where you might find opportunities for service outside of the school:
  • Faith-based community organizations
  • Hospitals
  • Community Centres
  • Charitable or Volunteer Organizations
  • Animal Shelters
  • Elementary Schools
  • Senior Citizens' Residences
  • Sports Organizations

In addition to large school projects and outside opportunities, students will encounter opportunities to engage in Service Learning within the classroom and across the curriculum. Students may engage in Service Learning as part of a classroom project or they may be inspired by classroom experiences to seek out or create new opportunities arising from newly-discovered needs.
