What is the IB Program?
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students aged 11-16.
The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. Students who complete this five-year programme are well prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP). Find out more about the MYP.

The Personal Project
MYP students complete an MYP Personal Project in their final year of the programme. A final capstone experience of their time in the IB MYP, students engage in a self-directed independent study based in their own interests and passions. Year 5 students use their ATL skills- Communication, Collaboration, Organization, Affective Management, Reflection, Information/Media Literacy, Critical Thinking, Creativity and Transfer- to work through complex problems toward their own goals. Student projects prepare them for success in further study, the workplace and their community.
Personal Projects are self-selected in terms of topic, with graduates having looked at ideas as broad and diverse as they are. Ask us to see some incredible examples!
Service in Action: Service as action, through community service
SLI has long-held values related to community and service. Our students are principled, engaging meaningfully in their school, local, national communities and beyond. We believe that service learning must take place both inside and out of the classroom. For further information about SLI's culture of Community Service or to log your service hours, click here.
Teaching and Learning in Context
The IB MYP program situates learning in context, helping us take our knowledge beyond the textbooks and into the real world. The six Global Contexts encourage students to engage in meaningful, useful and transferrable learning.
• Identities and Relationships
• Personal and Cultural Expression
• Orientations in Space and Time
• Scientific and Technical Innovation
• Fairness and Development
• Globalization and Sustainability
Conceptual Understanding
By encouraging students to look at their learning through the lens of big ideas, the IB MYP curriculum develops inquiry and interdisciplinary learning. The 16 key concepts are shared across disciplines and encourage students to think beyond the curriculum to larger trends in their lives and knowledge. Concepts are big ideas that have relevance within specific disciplines and across subject areas.
Approaches to Learning
A changing world requires changes in how we approach teaching and learning. By explicitly focusing on skill-building for the 21st century and beyond, students prepare meaningfully to engage as internationally-minded citizens who embody the learner profile.
